It takes a great deal of strength to keep January out of the soul and I’ve failed this year. – Jim Harrison
A friend sent me that quotation, thank goodness for friends. The Nebraska fall was warm in a disconcerting way. Then the year turned like sour milk and the temperature dropped and it snowed in two mean punches. It’s thawing now, thankfully, but dear lord is it ugly out there. I know there’s outer space up above the sheet of clouds that’s covering the plains but I don’t believe it. It takes faith for that, or flight. I have a flight coming up next month, initiating another two months in Mexico City like last winter. It’s a blessing. All I want is my gordita stand and the sun and the wifi in parks. And chilaquiles with salsa verde and a fried egg on top. And the ability to walk about and see people. Cars are dumb, racist beasts. Cars are for assholes and suckers.
Anyway, there’s some great new music on this mix, besides a new Waxahatchee song, it ends with a single from Rosali’s next album. I saw her at Pageturners when she was in town to record and it was heaven.
