Jim Kourlas

A Very Fine Writer of Fictions

June 2023 Mix

I spent some time in Chicago recently and snapped this picture of my old lavanderia. Sunday afternoons with a paperback and an iPod. Then I’d get carryout from Taqueria Super Burrito, letting my pit bull Stanley lick up my burrito drippings off the hardwood floor. Those weren’t good times but gosh do I miss Chicago. And Stanley.

The June mix is late and the sequencing is a bit half-ass, but there’s a lot of good songs, including a couple that my boy Theo chose. Put it on random.

Lit agents aren’t interested in the manuscript. It’d be nice if they at least sent form rejections instead of just ghosting writers when they’re uninterested as some tend to do. I’m going to find a home for the book. I have to. I like it. I like my writing. I like to write these long projects. What an awful, humiliating process, finding a publisher.
